Award recognizes Canadian organizations that have created positive work environments
June 02, 2009

The Xerox Research Centre Canada (XRCC) has been named one of the Top 10 Places Where Employees Thrive by Your Workplace magazine. Xerox was cited as an organization that offers a dynamic and creative workplace culture built on collaborative dialogue, trust, clear outcomes, tolerance, and teamwork. Award winners were announced in May at the Your Workplace Conference in Ottawa.

Final award winners were selected from a short list of organizations based on feedback from employees. XRCC employees cited a variety of positive attributes including diversity (employees come from over 35 countries), teamwork, work life balance and creative and innovative work environment.

"Our people are at the heart of our unique, open, creative and innovative work environment," said Hadi Mahabadi, vice president and centre director, Xerox Research Centre of Canada, "It's so much a part of the Xerox culture that it's not rare to have employees celebrate their 10th and even 30th anniversary with us. This award reminds us that what we have here is really special."

An employee video submitted to the magazine included such comments as "XRCC is a fun and dynamic environment, with an atmosphere of creativity and constant learning."

The Top 10 Places Where Employees Thrive award recognizes Canadian organizations that have created environments where workers feel their input and effort is valued and respected, and where innovation and contribution to improving workplace culture are motivated by leadership and management with input from personnel at every level.

"Even though this is the first year for these awards, the competition was stiff", says Vera Asanin, president of Your Workplace. "Remarkably, within 24-hours of releasing the survey to the shortlisted organizations, up to 97% of employees in some companies completed the survey form. When you have a committed and engaged staff, the results you can attain are astounding".
