Industry and academia join forces to tackle $900 billion problem
March 25, 2009

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 25, 2009 -- CIOs, managers, researchers, academicians, solution providers, and consultants will gather in California next month to explore the explosion of information that has reached crisis proportions, discuss its far-reaching impacts, and provide solutions. The Information Overload Research Group (IORG) will hold its second annual conference April 26 - 28, at PARC, a Xerox company, in Palo Alto.

Founded in 2007, IORG's mission is to build awareness of information overload as the world's greatest challenge to knowledge worker productivity. According to Basex, a knowledge economy research firm, information overload costs the U.S. economy $900 billion per year. IORG members conduct research, define best practices, contribute to the creation of solutions and resources, and help make the business case for fighting information overload.

"By bringing together experts from such diverse backgrounds, we are creating a powerful dialog on information overload," said Nathan Zeldes, president and chairman of the board, IORG. "This event will set the stage for further development of solutions to combat the extraordinary challenges we face from today's information explosion."

Among the topics to be discussed are multitasking in the workplace, content management and virtual assistants. Presenters include: Jonathan Spira, CEO and chief analyst, Basex; Brigitte Ricou-Bellan, vice president of knowledge work, Dow Jones; Max Christoff, executive director, Morgan Stanley; Dr Michael A. Freed, program director, Artificial Intelligence Center, SRI International; Col.
